Past Master, Des Clark

Past Master Des Clark was installed as Master Fletcher April 2006.

Des is London born and Hertford bred following his parents move to the county town of Hertford, to take over the local store and post office. He has fond memories of his education at Hertford Grammar School, now the Richard Hale School, and has maintained a strong connection through the Old Pupils Association of which he was President in 2003 and 2004

National service followed school and Des took a Russian Interpreters Course at the School of Slavonic Studies Cambridge. Then he gained a BSC in Estate Management at the University of London and is now a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and after many years in his own surveying practice in Hertford is now a consultant to Watson Temple’s London office.  One highlight of his professional career came when he was chosen by Dr Barnardo’s ahead of London surveyors to undertake a ten-year review of the planning and development potential of all the Charity’s surplus land and properties.

He was chairman of governors of a local primary school for many years, is a trustee of a number of local clubs and charities and is a member of the MCC. He enjoys sailing, cricket, golf, skiing, swimming, walking and his 2 Golden Retrievers.  In his spare time he has studied for an Open University Degree in the arts.

He is married to Trish and has three daughters.

He has been a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Fletchers since 1991 and Honorary Almoner for its Trust since 2002
