The Fletchers were delighted to have opportunity for a privilege visit behind the scenes at the Natural History Museum in Tring. The focus was on the National Ornithological Collection, and what an amazing place it is, and the site of much important research into birds of all kinds, as well as their nests and eggs.
We were fascinated to see the various collections, and to hear more on how they had been created in the past but were still being developed now and into the future.
Research at the NHM is shedding important light on species, as well as on the impact of climate change. But it was very special to see specimens collected on the Voyage of the Beagle in the early 1830s, including the large ground finch from the Galapagos Islands, as illustrated on the MHN web site.
