On 29 July, 14 Fletchers and friends visited Guildford Archery Club for an afternoon of instruction and light-hearted competition.
Stuart Edwards and Steve Tully of GAC were our friendly hosts, along with their coaching colleagues. The sun shone, and despite a breeze most of the arrows hit the targets!
Beneficiaries of the coaching were Celia Campbell and Dan Spenser, who won the ladies and men’s beginners’ competitions.
Among the experienced archers, winners were:
Men’s Recurve – Andrew Trapnell
Ladies’ Recurve – Melanie Trapnell
Longbow – Gordon Sharp
Barebow – Roy Campbell
We finished the day with a fun shoot at figures on a mini medieval castle, using longbows donated to GAC from the Agincourt Appeal. GAC also have two Agincourt inscribed benches at their clubhouse, from the same appeal. We then enjoyed coffee and cakes with our hosts. All agreed that this event should be repeated (but perhaps avoiding school holiday times).
