HMS Sheffield Affiliation

The Worshipful Company of Fletchers’ formal affiliation with the Royal Navy dates back over 30 years.  Its first affiliation was with the Type 42 Destroyer HMS Sheffield which sadly was sunk during the Falklands conflict.  After a brief affiliation with HMS Arrow from 1993, another HMS Sheffield then became the Fletchers’ ship until 2003 when it was sold to the Chilean Navy.

The picture shows the formal document of affiliation.

During the period of association, the Master was an honorary member of HMS Sheffield’s Wardroom Mess.  The Master was invited to visit the ship when it was in a UK port to present the Fletchers’ Award for achievement to an outstanding member of the ship’s company, as judged by HMS Sheffield’s Commanding Officer.

The Worshipful Company of Fletchers now supports HMS Defender; further information can be found at item 39.
