Song 1

A Song written for the Quarterly Meeting of the Court of the Worshipful Company of Fletchers, on St. Paul’s Day, 25th January, every Year.

 TUNE – “Rule Britannia

WITH joy we hail this happy day,

To good Saint Paul each tribute pay;

With pleasing hope we enter on this year,

Great commerce will our country cheer.

Long may Fletchers each social comfort share,

By Fortune’s smiles secur’d from care.

For ages past their fame we date,

When Archers were supremely great;

To this grand period from each long past day,

The Fletchers made a grand display.

Long may Fletchers each social comfort share,

By Fortune’s smiles secur’d from care.

From year this day the Fletchers meet,

To share a friendly happy treat;

From age to age their lawful rights pursue,

And loyal freedom keep in view.

Long may Fletchers each social comfort share,

By Fortune’s smiles secur’d from care.

May peace and plenty crown the year,

No sad reverse may England fear;

May our great Regent support each noble cause,[1]

Defend our liberty and laws.

Long may Fletchers each social comfort share,

By Fortune’s smiles secur’d from care.

[1] Changed to King after accession of George IV.
