A Song written for the … of the Worshipful Company of Fletchers, 13th of October [Manuscript: Saint Edward’s day]
TUNE – “The Cobler”
This Autumn our country with plenty is blest,
From the scourges of war we most happily rest,
And the day of Saint Edward the Fletchers invite
To a sumptuous repast with much joy and delight.
Derry down, & c.
The summons our Brethren with pleasure obey,
In friendship and harmony pass the gay day;
Each dainty in season will cheerfully share,
In sparkling good wine will soon banish dull care.
Derry down, & c.
To our Father each Brother a bumper will fill,
Who makes it his study our joys to fulfil;
In him the whole company find a true friend,
To their comfort and interest will closely attend.
Derry down, & c.
Next fill up a bumper with greatest respect,
To drink a good health to the Lord Mayor Elect;
The rights of our City may he have in view,
And the paths of true honor and justice pursue.
Derry down, & c.
Long may our fam’d isle share the blessings of peace,
And commerce at home and abroad much increase;
May no disaffected our freedom destroy,
And may Fletchers their festivals every enjoy.
