Royal Navy - HMS Defender

HMS Defender is a type 45 (Daring class) destroyer.  She is the fifth of the Navy's six state-of-the-art Type 45 destroyers and returned from her maiden deployment to the Middle East in December 2014.  She displaced 8,000 tonnes and has a top speed of 30 knots, with a ship’s company of 190. Her current Commanding Officer is Commander Richard Hewitt, Royal Navy received the Freedom of the Fletchers Company and of the City of London on the 6th October 2015 shortly before Defender left on her current operational assignment.

Members of the Fletchers’ Company were last aboard Defender on her return to London following her maiden deployment, where we were pleased to help to host a reception of members of the Gallipoli Association and in honour of ANZAC Day commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign.
