The port opened in November 2013 and is now linked on a weekly-basis with 51 countries and more than 90 ports all over the world.
The visit comprised an introductory presentation by DP World followed by a coach tour of the terminal, including a full commentary about the operation. This was followed by a visit to the Border Control Point which is the facility where checks on imported food and feed are undertaken to ensure compliance with public and animal health requirements.
Our grateful thanks go to our hosts the City of London Corporation’s Port Health Service who gave us an opportunity to see how inspections are undertaken, and the Port Health staff, including official veterinarians, who were on hand to answer our questions.
