British Wheelchair Archery Association Report

Past Master Chris Brown  writes

I was pleased to attend the second of the monthly British Wheelchair Archery Association winter training days on Saturday 15 October 2025. Each self-funded session consists of two days but each Sunday is shorter, allowing participants to return home safely. The event is always held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Buckinghamshire. The complex is the home of paralympic sport founded by Dr Ludwig Guttman in the 1940’s and is proud to display that in their Heritage Centre.

Attending were 23 archers, almost all in wheelchairs, a number which rivals pre-covid times. Each session has to be booked and on occasions, there is waiting list. Archers present included several in receipt of Trust funds in the past, such as Paul Browne, Deborah Illman-Roberts, Alex Wise and Jamie Wallace. Four archers were completing their beginners course. Some had travelled from distant parts, such as Northumberland, Tiverton and from the Manchester area. I met many people that I had come across over the years including coaches and mentors.

Future sessions will be held on 17/18 January, 14/15 February and 14/15 March 2026 and any Fletcher attending would be made most welcome.
