Past Master, Bob Hall

Past Master Bob Hall was installed as Master Fletcher on the 15th April 2010.

Bob Hall, educated at Rugby School (1957-62) and St Edmund Hall, Oxford (1962-65), qualified as a solicitor in 1970. He has lived and worked in London since 1967:

Norton, Rose, Botterell & Roche (solicitors) from 1967-1974; 1974-75 research assistant to Derek Coombes MP; from 1975-2003 Baker & McKenzie (Partner, 1980-2000).


Active in politics since 1974, he was a member of Hornsey and Wood Green Conservative Association from 1974-1999, holding various offices (including chairman of the Association). Currently member of the Cities of London and Westminster Conservative Association.


From 1977-1994 he was an elected member of the London Borough of Haringey (Muswell Hill Ward) and was Leader of the Conservative Opposition from 1984- 1990. From 1995 to date, an elected member of the City of London Corporation (Farringdon Within Ward) and from 2002 to date as Alderman of the same ward. He has chaired various committees at the City of London Corporation and for the period 2006-2009 was  chairman of committees responsible for management of Hampstead Heath and other City owned open spaces in North London.


He is a magistrate, a former General Commissioner for Income Tax, director of two not-for-profit companies promoting the use of land rights in developing economies, a trustee of two charities, a former chairman of the Governing Body of the only state primary School in the City of London, Honorary Member of City & Guilds and Honorary Vice-President British Red Cross (City of London Sector).


From 1996-2006 he chaired various groups at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (in Geneva) dealing with land rights and other issues, and from 2002-06 was the UK Government’s Representative on an Intergovernmental Working Party at UNECE dealing with the commercial and legal aspects of the development of trade in Central and Eastern Europe.


He is a liveryman of the Fletchers Company and of the Solicitors Company.
